The task today was to ‘like’ and follow a library on Facey. I have done an alternative: I have subscribed to Franktson Library Blog’s RSS feed.
Finding real meaning in job ads
Today’s exercise is decoding Library industry job advertisements and finding the keywords / meaningful criteria (as opposed to the filler), so they can be addressed in the cover letter and hopefully pass electronic filtering.

Stylings of Wordiness
Having had many a scuffle with macros et al in high school in the late 90s, which can only be described as “I made it the way I wanted it perfectly last night, now it is a dog’s breakfast!!!” A bit like “the dog ate my homework” to the teachers.
Once bitten, twice shy as it always is and thus ever since, I have preferred to do documentation, presentations even websites etc. in ways that I can completely control and cannot be tampered with by compatibility issues, font deficiencies and default settings whims. This usually involved exportation to pdf, or even a 300dpi image, or html page (with the coding written from scratch).
Now, I am having to re-evaluate this stance being as I am a student again at TAFE. I am assured that docx is somewhat more reliable than past incarnations. (Although, I will always prefer the free and open source Libre Office as well as anything Linux-related).
Today, I learned styles automatically allow body text under headings be shown or hidden as required by the little arrow that appears at the beginning of the heading text, like a collapsible file tree. As shown in the following screen shots:

Having kept social media at arm’s length and using various platforms for my own purposes, being asked to join the infamous Facebook was something I wasn’t so keen on but willing to do with a dummy name and a clean email.
I’ve started a Library and Cultural Services course, you see and it is one of the requirements. However, while attempting to join Fbook, it requires a ‘real’ name. I put a ‘real’ sounding name, a fake DOB and proceeded to the next step. A phone number for a confirmation text and some guff about there being a limit of one facebook account per person with a different phone number per account. Deal breaker. The bank sending newly generated codes for internet transactions, reasonable. Zukerburg and the other delightfuls wanting heuristic information, pisstake.
And thus, apologies for the inconvenience to the faculty, but no.
Other social media which shows a lot less cheek such as this blog, and Deviant Art, old school LiveJournal, Fanfiction.net, FictionPress, et al is more my cup of tea for different and very compartmentalised purposes.
Social media is of course, ever changing. And thus there are so many different options that suit the purposes of the individual. No need to be sheep!
